In 2012 Queen Zoe, a lovable little Chihuahua, went missing. Marie Jennings, founder and president of Alberta Lost Pet Locator and Rescue Society, searched for weeks on end with no luck finding her beloved dog. What she did find was that there was a lack of resources available for people like her whose dogs had gone missing.
This galvanized Marie to create the resource she wished had been available when Zoe disappeared. Alberta Lost Pet Locator was a way for owners to be able to reach out and connect with other people who might have seen or found their lost pets.
This eventually led to the creation of a pet food bank, where people who found themselves unable to feed their pets could get access to much needed pet food.
Today, ALPL is also a rescue. Our dogs are brought into foster homes where they are assessed and if need be, fully vetted. We keep the dogs for a period of time that could last for many months to ensure that we are aware of any health issues they have, and we will work with one of our training partners to deal with any behavioral problems that are challenging.
We also work with individuals who, for a wide variety of reasons, may no longer be able to care for their dog and wish to surrender them. These dogs go through the same process as those we rescue: foster care, health and behaviour analysis, be finding them a new home.
Our goal is to ensure that each dog that leaves our rescue does so in great health and is going to the right furever home. We don't just adopt animals out, we place them into homes that we believe are going to provide each dog with their best furever life!
Our foster program is pretty simple - you open up your home to a rescue dog, we provide all of the supplies, you provide all the love. Can't foster but want to help?
Adopting a rescue dog changes not only their lives but yours as well. Consider becoming a furever family!
We are a pet food bank serving residents of Calagary, Edmonton and their surrounding communities in dire Need circumstances for food. By providing food for their furfamily, we can help offer comfort.
Ways to Donations
We are a non-profit organization who works closely with a group of dedicated volunteers and vet clinics to provide the best care to dogs who come to our organizations. We require funding to support these efforts and cover medical bills.
